Tips for Teaching Honesty | Best of June

“Be true to your work, your word, and your friend.” – Henry David Thoreau

From the time your child wakes up until the time they go to sleep at night, there are countless opportunities for learning and growing. In classrooms across the U.S., Kiddie Academy teachers are making a positive difference in the lives of children, helping educate and inspire the next generation of amazing kids by introducing monthly character concepts.

Throughout the month of June, Kiddie Academy’s character education program focused on the value of honesty through lively classroom discussions of what honesty means.

What is Honesty?

Honesty is the act of telling the truth in communication and putting forth a true representation of yourself to others. It involves stating the facts and following through on your word if you say you will do something.

Being honest and having integrity are the foundation of a trusting environment. In a trusting environment, your child can relax and count on the people around them to be reliable.

Practice Honesty Everyday.

Children experiment with the truth once they realize that adults cannot read their minds. Adults should model honesty by telling children the truth and keeping their word. If you say you will do something after lunch, follow through. Encourage that children tell the truth, regardless of the consequences.
