Kiddie Academy COVID-19 Precautions

September 1, 2020

What is Kiddie Academy of Millersville doing to prevent the spread of COVID-19?

While the state of Maryland remains under a State of Emergency, we realize it is not possible for you to work and provide the necessary education, care and socialization your young children need. We also know that you need a safe, secure and education-based facility for your family.

We realize that many families in our community cannot work and provide the necessary time to assist in the county’s public school virtual learning plan. You just can’t be in two places at once. At Kiddie Academy you can – with the Watch Me Grow camera system and our Virtual Learning Assist Classroom – you have the ability to check in on your child and see their progress throughout the day.

For these reasons, our Academy has continued to remain open to serve our community and added new equipment, adjusted our procedures, and modified our policies to mitigate the spread of any communicable diseases, now and in the future.

We currently have a rare Infant space, One Toddler space and one School Age full time space available.

We’re Continuing to Implement Modified Daily Procedures for Health & Safety

During this pandemic, and beyond, providing child care services will be done in a thoughtful and safe manner. Daily Academy operations will continue to adhere to our strict health practices along with additional modifications that comply with the Maryland Department of Public Health (MDPH), U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC), Kiddie Academy and several other government agencies regulating child care.

Some of the steps we have and will continue to take include:

  • A newly purchased ZONO Cabinet (www.zonotechnologies.com) which allows all hard to clean items like toys, cots, etc. to be sanitized without liquid and proven to kill 99.99% of viruses, germs and bacteria.

  • Checking children and staff temperatures each day upon entry into the school.

  • Increasing the quantity of hand sanitizer stations throughout the school.

  • Using a 3-step cleaning process (wash, rinse, disinfect) for toys and surfaces.

  • Removing and sanitizing mouthed toys immediately.

  • Regularly laundering soft items such as bedding, boppy pillows, dress up items, puppets, etc.

  • Regularly sanitizing high-touch surfaces in common areas, door handles, touch screens and switches.

  • Sanitizing playground equipment multiple times a day.

  • Limiting the number of adults in the building to 1 per family, as well as not allowing outside visitors or vendors into the Academy.

  • Adhering to the updated maximum group size of 10 children in a classroom.

  • Requiring anyone inside the academy above the age of five to wear face masks when possible.

Prior to COVID-19 our policies and procedures were stringent and meticulous to ensure a safe and healthy environment, but now we want to assure our families that we have exhausted all options to limit the spread of COVID and other communicable diseases.

  1. What is it?

    1. A large, double refrigerator-like cabinet that fits two large carts of toys, cots, materials to sanitize without chemicals.

  1. What does it kill?

    1. The ZONO Ozone Cabinet kills 99.9% of common viruses+ on non-porous surfaces and 99.9% of common bacteria* on non-porous, porous and semi-porous surfaces.

  1. Does it kill Coronavirus?

    1. Under EPA regulations, ZONO cannot say it kills COVID-19 until it is able to test with the virus. However, ZONO has tested with Norovirus, widely known as one of the hardest types of virus to kill, and ZONO kills 99.99% (disinfecting level) of Norovirus. ZONO plans to test with COVID-19 as soon as possible.

  1. How does it work?

    1. The ZONO utilizes a combination of: Process control, Ozone Concentration, Humidity, and Time to achieve consistent and laboratory-confirmed disinfection and sanitization levels. With the Integrated Mobile Rack and Cart System eliminates cross-contamination and cuts down on user handling of equipment.

  1. How often is it used?

    1. Each classroom will use it at least once a day for items used during that day. Cots will be done as often as possible.
