On April 24, 2026, Kiddie Academy of Gaithersburg hosted an Earth Day Literacy Event that unfolded into a truly memorable experience. The day brought a mix of thunderstorms, sunshine, wind, and light rain—a fitting reflection of the theme: embracing nature in all its forms. Families gathered for this rain-or-shine program to read together, create bird feeders, and experience the outdoors with a sense of curiosity and joy.
The event created meaningful opportunities for connection, from shared Storytime to hands-on activities and a lively parent theatre experience. It also welcomed a special guest organization whose mission closely aligns with Kiddie Academy’s values. Representatives from the Chesapeake Bay Trust, including Director of Development Eric Barese, Marketing Officer Bridget Robey, and Board of Trustees member Astrid Caldis, joined the event to support the day and explore opportunities for continued partnership.
The Chesapeake Bay Trust advances a vision of a restored and protected watershed, spanning from the Coastal Bays to the Chesapeake Bay and the Youghiogheny River. Through funding and technical support, the organization empowers local, community-based groups to lead meaningful environmental work. Each year, the Trust supports approximately 450 organizations, contributing to measurable impact such as planting more than 237,000 native trees and plants, creating over 113,000 square feet of rain gardens, and engaging more than 140,000 students, educators, and volunteers in hands-on environmental learning.
With a top rating from Charity Navigator for more than 20 years and over 90 percent of funding directed toward programs, the Trust ensures that contributions support transparent, results-driven work.
In alignment with this mission, Kiddie Academy of Gaithersburg has set aside a portion of registration fees to support a nonprofit that reflects the spirit of the endangered animals represented in each classroom—from Butterfly Bunch to Panther Patrol. While its mission extends beyond early childhood education, its strong local presence makes the impact especially meaningful for Kiddie Academy families, the community at large for its focus ensure we have a thriving ecosystem that protects and support the animals natural to our state. During the event, the academy proudly presented a $2,500 donation to the Chesapeake Bay Trust.
Kiddie Academy of Gaithersburg remains committed to philanthropic efforts as an extension of its educational approach, modeling the importance of compassion, responsibility, and community engagement for its youngest learners. Through meaningful partnerships and giving initiatives, the academy introduces children to the idea that even small actions can create a positive impact. By weaving these experiences into everyday learning, students begin to understand their role in caring for others and the world around them—building a foundation for empathy and purposeful contribution that will grow with them over time.
Looking ahead, this partnership will continue to grow. The Chesapeake Bay Trust will also be featured as the nonprofit partner for Kiddie Academy of Gaithersburg’s 10th Annual Children’s Art Show and Charity Auction, further strengthening a shared commitment to community and environmental stewardship.
