Beat the Heat, Kiddie Academy Babies!

Whew…it’s a HOT one! With temperatures reaching 100 degrees today, it’s the perfect time to slow down, stay cool, and give our little ones some extra TLC.

Did you know that babies and young children can get overheated much more quickly than adults? Their little bodies are still learning how to regulate temperature, so keeping them comfortable during these extra-hot summer days is especially important.

Here are some of our favorite ways to help our Kiddie Academy babies stay cool:

Keep It Cool Indoors

On days like today, the best place to be is somewhere nice and air-conditioned! Indoor play, story time, music and movement, and sensory activities are all wonderful ways to keep little ones entertained while escaping the heat.

Dress for Summer Success

Light, breathable clothing is the way to go! Soft cotton outfits and lightweight fabrics help babies stay comfortable and prevent them from getting too warm.

Sip, Sip, Hooray!

Hydration is extra important on hot days. Offer water frequently to older babies and toddlers, and continue regular breast milk or formula feedings for infants. Those little bodies need lots of fluids to stay happy and healthy!

Water Play for the Win!

Who doesn’t love a little splash time? Water tables, sprinklers, and supervised water play are fun ways to cool off while building sensory and motor skills. Plus, giggles and splashes make the best summer memories!

Find the Shade

If you do head outside, try to stick to the early morning or evening hours and look for shady spots. Don’t forget hats and sunscreen for our older babies and toddlers!

A Very Important Reminder

Never leave a child in a parked car—not even for a minute. Cars can heat up incredibly fast, even when the windows are cracked.

Watching for Signs of Overheating

If your little one seems extra sleepy, unusually fussy, has flushed cheeks, or isn’t acting like themselves, it may be time to cool down, hydrate, and check in with your pediatrician if needed.

Cool babies, happy babies, and lots of summer smiles!

Whether you’re staying inside with books and bubbles or enjoying a little splash time, we hope your family stays safe, cool, and enjoys every sweet moment of summer.

Happy Heat Wave Day from all of us at Kiddie Academy of Whitestone!
