As an life-long educator, I understand how easy it can be to be drawn to the newest schools, programs and even curriculum. While I believe in staying up to date on best practices and continuing to learn how best to serve young children, I also believe that intentionality is at the heart of high-quality early childhood education. Young children learn and develop rapidly. Every interaction, environment and experience has the potential to shape their growth. Because of this, early childhood educators have a responsibility to make thoughtful, purposeful decisions that support the whole child—academically, socially, emotionally and physically.
Being intentional means creating learning experiences with clear purpose while remaining responsive to each child’s unique needs, interests, and developmental stage. It also means that we create meaningful connections between school and home by fostering partnerships and open communication with parents and caregivers.
