Dr. Marian White-Hood

Director

July 31, 2024   With over thirty years of committed service to education, Dr. White-Hood has been an advocate for intense and rigorous levels of curriculum and instruction which includes programs that address the needs of all children. She has embraced parents as partners in public school education and has modeled the intent of parent involvement in education from the federal law. In addition, she has used proven research-based methods, strategies, and practices to give tremendous energy and focus to Pre-K through high school practices.  Winner of the Prince George’s County Chamber of Commerce Outstanding Educator Award, Prince George’s County Public Schools Outstanding Educator Award, finalist in the Maryland Teacher of the Year Competition, Washington Post Distinguished Leadership Award, and 2002 Minority Achievement Award, Dr. White-Hood never gives up on children, parents, and community members! Dr. Marian White-Hood trained, mentored, and coached over fifty teachers who have become principals and administrators in the metropolitan area. Likewise, she has trained principals for the Department of Defense in Germany. Today, Dr. Marian White-Hood is honored to be Director for the Kiddie Academy of Silver Spring, MD. She enjoys working with over 30 distinguished teachers and spreading her love and appreciation for children and parents every day.

Koshila Thelge

Acting Director

Ms. Koshila has been a part of Kiddie Academy of Silver Spring since its opening and now serves as the Acting Director. She brings over 15 years of administrative experience in educational settings both in Sri Lanka and the United States. Throughout her time at Kiddie Academy, she has held multiple leadership roles, steadily advancing from Assistant Teacher to Lead Teacher, Summer Camp and School Age Program Coordinator, Assistant Director, and now Acting Director. Koshila is currently pursuing her bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education and is deeply committed to fostering an enriching, supportive environment where children, families, and staff can grow and succeed together.

Patricia Miller

Hello! My name is Ms. Patricia, and I’ve been a proud member of Kiddie Academy of Silver Spring for over two years. Working here has truly been a joy. I collaborate closely with our dedicated teachers and partner with families each day to support every child’s growth. One of my greatest joys is watching children achieve new milestones and celebrating their accomplishments day by day.

Sonia Gupta

Administrative Coordinator

Ms. Sonia brings over 20 years of experience in child caregiving and is a proud mother of two. She is passionate about creating safe, nurturing spaces where children feel confident and supported to grow. At Kiddie Academy, Sonia combines her deep childcare background with her strong administrative skills to help ensure smooth daily operations. Her positive energy and dedication make her an invaluable part of our team.

Nicole Lee

With over 20 years of experience working with young children, I have dedicated my career to teaching and shaping the minds of 3–5-year-olds. I truly enjoy the challenge and joy of helping little learners grow, explore, and build confidence each day.   In October, at the CCSS Conference, I was honored to receive the Excellence Award in Professionalism—a recognition that holds a very special place in my heart. Guiding children through their early years is not just my job; it is my passion and purpose.

Hi, I’m Ms. Etalem. I’ve been part of Kiddie Academy of Silver Spring since the very beginning, and working with our two-year-olds brings me so much joy. Every day, I get to guide curious little minds, support their growth, and celebrate their milestones. Teaching is truly my passion, and I am committed to providing the best care and learning experience for every child in my classroom.

Shequietta Levine

Hi! I’m Shequietta L., affectionately known by our families and students as Ms. Q. I have been committed to my passion for teaching young children for over 10 years. For the past three years, I’ve been proud to be part of the Kiddie Academy family.   I am currently the lead teacher of our 4’s class — or as we love to call ourselves, “The Fantastic Fours.” I am dedicated to making sure every child feels loved, nurtured, and truly seen. My heartfelt belief is that every child has a bright path ahead of them, and I am honored to support that journey. Their educational foundation begins with my commitment to their growth, learning, and well-being.

Hi, I’m Ms. Rita, and I’m proud to be one of the toddler teachers here at Kiddie Academy. Working with toddlers is truly rewarding for me — I love their energy, curiosity, and the joy they bring into the classroom every single day. I am passionate about creating a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment where our little ones can explore, learn, and grow at their own pace. Supporting their early milestones and watching their personalities shine is one of the best parts of my job.   I feel grateful to be part of a dedicated team and to share in these special early years of each child’s journey.

Hi, I’m Ms. Nila, and I have the joy of caring for our littlest learners in the Infant Room. Working with babies is truly special to me. I love their gentle smiles, their tiny milestones, and the comfort they find in a caring, calm environment. My goal every day is to create a warm, safe, and nurturing space where each baby feels loved, supported, and understood. Whether it’s tummy time, cuddles, or helping them discover the world around them, I cherish every moment. I feel grateful to partner with our families and to be part of these beautiful first years of growth.

Genet Mekonin

Hi, I’m Ms. Genet, and I am proud to be one of the Infant Teachers here at Kiddie Academy. I have been part of this school since the very beginning, and it has been a true joy to care for our babies and support their earliest moments of growth. Working with infants is something I cherish deeply. I love creating a calm, loving, and secure environment where each little one feels safe, comforted, and cared for. Watching them develop new skills, bond with their caregivers, and grow day by day is incredibly rewarding. Being here from the start has allowed me to build strong relationships with our families and to be part of a wonderful community. I am grateful for the trust parents place in me and for the opportunity to nurture our youngest learners every day.
