Kiddie Academy of Urbana Receives the 2026 Life Essentials® Award

This weekend, at the Kiddie Academy Annual Conference in Boca Raton, Florida, Kiddie Academy of Urbana was honored with the prestigious Life Essentials® Award. This national recognition celebrates academies that exemplify the Life Essentials® curriculum through exceptional implementation, meaningful family partnerships, and a commitment to helping every child reach their fullest potential.

While the award was presented on one memorable evening, it represents something much bigger: years of intentional work, continuous improvement, and a shared commitment to excellence.

At Kiddie Academy of Urbana, the Life Essentials® curriculum is more than a guide. It is woven into every classroom experience, every conversation, and every opportunity for children to learn through exploration.

Our educators understand that meaningful learning happens when academic growth is balanced with social-emotional development. Lessons are not rushed. Instead, teachers thoughtfully extend activities, ask deeper questions, and adapt experiences to meet children where they are.

Many of our educators have taught multiple cycles of the Life Essentials® curriculum, allowing them to continuously refine their teaching while maintaining the integrity of each learning experience. Our infant and toddler teams embraced the newest curriculum revisions with the same dedication, ensuring every classroom provides a high-quality experience regardless of a child’s age.

Behind every engaging lesson is thoughtful preparation. Teachers dedicate scheduled planning time outside of the classroom to organize materials, prepare weekly supply lists, and create learning environments that are welcoming, engaging, and reflective of the children they serve.

This preparation allows classrooms to be ready each day—not just for planned activities, but for the curiosity and creativity children naturally bring.

One of the greatest strengths of Kiddie Academy of Urbana is the partnership between educators and families.

Learning extends beyond the classroom through experiences that invite families to participate alongside their children. Community library photo challenges during Read Across America, Engineers Week classroom activities, and our annual “Disguise a Turkey” tradition all encourage meaningful connections between home and school.

Our older students regularly share emotional reflections through Tadpoles, giving families opportunities to continue important conversations at home. Grandparents volunteer during Trunk or Treat, and extended family members enthusiastically support our annual Children’s Art Show and Charity Auction and other philanthropic initiatives throughout the year.
