At Kiddie Academy of White Plains, we believe that being part of a community means finding meaningful ways to support the families around us. This September, we are proud to continue one of our favorite community traditions: our third annual diaper drive benefiting The Sharing Shelf. From September 21 through September 30, 2026, Kiddie Academy families, staff and members of the greater White Plains community are invited to donate new, unopened packages of diapers to help local families in need. Donations may be dropped off at Kiddie Academy of White Plains, 222 Bloomingdale Road in White Plains, or families may choose to donate directly to The Sharing Shelf.

Three Years of Giving Back

This year marks the third consecutive year that Kiddie Academy of White Plains has organized a diaper drive to support The Sharing Shelf.  What began as an opportunity to help meet an important need in our community has become an annual tradition for our Academy. Each year, we have been grateful to see our families and staff come together to contribute and help other families throughout Westchester County. As an early childhood education center, we spend every day caring for young children and working closely with parents. We understand just how many essentials are needed during the first years of a child’s life—and how quickly families can go through supplies such as diapers. By working together, even something as simple as donating a package of diapers can make a meaningful difference.

Supporting The Sharing Shelf

The Sharing Shelf is a Westchester-based nonprofit organization dedicated to providing children and families in need with essential items. Its work helps connect donated children’s necessities with families throughout our local community who can use them. We are proud to support an organization whose mission is so closely connected to children and families—the same community we serve every day. Our annual diaper drive also gives our Kiddie Academy families an easy way to participate in a local charitable effort. Families can simply bring a package of diapers with them during morning drop-off or afternoon pickup, and members of the wider community are welcome to participate as well. Those who prefer may also make their donations directly to The Sharing Shelf.

Teaching Kindness Through Action

Community service has another important role within an early childhood community: it provides an opportunity to model kindness and generosity for young children. Preschoolers may not yet understand all of the challenges another family could be experiencing, but they can begin to understand a much simpler idea: we can help other people. Young children learn a great deal by watching the adults around them. When they see parents, teachers and neighbors working together to help others, concepts such as kindness, empathy and community become more tangible. At Kiddie Academy of White Plains, character development is an important part of our Life Essentials® curriculum. Experiences that encourage children to think about others complement what happens every day in our classrooms as children learn to share, cooperate, build friendships and become caring members of their communities.

A Community Effort

One of the things we value most about being a locally owned and operated child care center in White Plains is the opportunity to become part of the larger community beyond our Academy doors. Since opening in 2021, Kiddie Academy of White Plains has enjoyed building relationships with local organizations and participating in  community activities throughout White Plains and Westchester County. Our diaper drive is one of the ways our families, educators and neighbors can come together around a shared goal. We are especially grateful to the Kiddie Academy families who have supported this effort over the past three years. Their generosity is what allows a collection like this to grow from an idea into an annual tradition.
