Did you know that September 14, 2014 marks the 200th anniversary of the writing of “The Star-Spangled Banner,” our National Anthem? This Bicentennial year provides a unique opportunity to raise awareness and connect with two of our greatest symbols of freedom and democracy – the flag and the anthem.
On September 9, 2014, over 7,000 school students donning red, white, and blue will create the Star-Spangled Banner Living Flag at Fort McHenry National Monument and Historic Shrine. Like their predecessors during the Centennial in 1914, children will literally be making history as part of the Star-Spangled Banner and now you can too! Children from across the nation are invited to join “virtually” on www.starspangledbannerlivingflag.org by:
- Creating your own Star-Spangled Banner Living Flag at your school and sharing it on You Tube
- Watching it through live web streaming
- Pre-registering and participating in our Living Flag Distance Learning program
