Did you know that young children who are introduced to reading before preschool are more likely to do well in all facets of formal education?
At Kiddie Academy, reading together is an essential part of preparing children for school and for life. That’s why select Kiddie Academy locations nationwide will be hosting Storytime LIVE! This free community event invites children and their parents to their local Kiddie Academy to enjoy a story together – and an in-person visit from the story’s lead character.
Early Moments highlights some of the key benefits of reading to your children:
- Throughout toddlerhood and preschool, your child is learning critical language and enunciation skills. By reading out loud to your child, he or she is able to reinforce the basic sounds that form language. For instance, try reading One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish. This classic read will help your child reinforce basic sounds.
- Your child will gain valuable communication skills simply by observing the connections between the characters in the books you read, as well as the contact with you during story time. This in turn will become a nurturing activity that will bring you closer together as your child continues to grow older.
- As your toddler or preschooler begins to relate the scenarios in books to what’s happening in his or her own world, he or she will become more excited about the stories you share. You can also help alleviate a potentially stressful or anxious experience by reading a relevant story to help with a major transition in your child’s life (i.e. starting preschool, making new friends, etc.).
As a parent, you have the power to boost your child’s learning potential simply by making books an integral part of their lives.
