The grantmaking program created by Kiddie Academy® uses an invite-only application process to identify and contribute funds to qualified nonprofits both locally and nationally. The grantmaking process uses a predetermined set of criteria and requires that every potential grant recipient aligns with the organizational values within Kiddie Academy and demonstrates a strong ability to create a brighter future for children and their families.
This year, the program dispersed $15,000 in grants to local and national nonprofits. Each organization has a unique mission, and we couldn’t be more proud to support their efforts.
- Teaching Matters: Our contribution to Teaching Matters will be utilized to implement the Foundational Literacy Matters program in five Bronx schools, specifically targeting students in kindergarten and first grade. This will be achieved through professional support for teachers, as well as EdTech platforms and materials.
- FORE The Cure Inc.: This grant will be used to support Fore The Cure Inc.’s annual charitable golf tournament, which raises funds for the leading pancreatic cancer patient advocacy group, the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network. This organization’s mission holds a special place in our community’s heart as George Miller, one of the Kiddie Academy founders, passed away from the disease in 2004.
- ReadWorks: Funds will be used to create nonfiction decodable texts for students in kindergarten through second grade. These decodable texts include the specific speech sounds that correspond to what students learn in the classroom through phonics instruction, allowing them to build background knowledge while practicing the letter-sound code that brings reading to life.
- Harford County Education Foundation: This grant will support Littles University, a program that highlights a new book every month that parents can go online and order for free from the library.
- Girls Who Code (GWC): Our contribution to Girls Who Code goes toward its Pipeline Program, which supports girls throughout their educational journey – from third grade to middle-school, high-school, and into college. This has a significant impact on the number of college aged alumni majoring or minoring in CS each year, which is key to reaching gender parity.
- CASA of Harford County: These funds will help create extra tutoring services for children who are currently being served by CASA of Harford County. This specifically supports children who are a part of the local Department of Social Services and do not have access to programs or services to overcome educational challenges.
- Boys & Girls Club of Harford & Cecil Counties: These funds will be used to help offset the cost of training staff to be credentialed per MSDE standards for licensure in approved schools across Harford, Cecil, and Kent Counties.
- Harford County Public Library Foundation: Our contribution will be used to support the 2024 HCPL Gala Sponsorship, benefiting Rolling Reader & Costume Wheel Chair Work Shop.
- Parks & People: Funds will be used to support Parks & People Inc.’s summer learning camp, SuperKids Camp (SKC). SKC engages 625 rising first through fifth graders in literacy and STEAM focused enrichment activities across five Baltimore City school sites. Each student spends up to 160 hours immersed in reading instruction, environmental education, arts, and outdoor experiences to increase their understanding of nature, society, and social responsibility.
- Irvine Natural Science Center: This grant will be used to support Irvine Natural Science Center, Inc.’s Holidays with A Hoot, an interactive family event that features a delightful morning of nature-based activities to kick off the holiday season.
- Chesapeake Therapeutic Riding: These funds will be used to support Chesapeake Therapeutic Riding’s mission to deliver healing and learning to individuals and groups whose minds, bodies, and spirits will benefit from the transformative connection between people and horses.
