“My wife and I are both working professionals and 9 years ago, we needed child care for our daughter. We toured a bunch of facilities, put down 3 non-refundable deposits, and really pored over the decision for weeks. It wasn’t easy and I remember the hesitation, especially on the 1st day, leaving our baby with essentially strangers. Having this appreciation for the whole experience as a working parent has really connected me with a franchise like Kiddie Academy. I’m deeply passionate about what we do because I’ve lived it myself,” says Broc Silberzahn, newly appointed Vice President of Franchise Development.
While Broc is new to the vice president suite, he’s no stranger to Kiddie Academy. He joined the company in 2013 as a Director of Franchise Development and most recently served as Senior Director for the department. He has over 20 years of business experience, with 15 years in the education franchise industry. In his new role, Broc has ambitious plans.
“Kiddie Academy is coming off our best year ever. We saw 20 percent growth in system-wide revenue, have more than 250 locations in 30 states and the District of Columbia and were consistently recognized as leader in our industry. My goal is not only to continue to build upon the success we’ve seen but expand it into new markets. We want to open an additional 30-35 new franchise locations across the United States by the end of 2020.”
While a growing footprint in new and existing markets is exciting, Broc explains that it isn’t the only focus for him.
“The great thing about Kiddie Academy—something I truly believe sets us apart—is that we’re not just focused on growing our system and opening more facilities. We’re always thinking of how we can better assist our existing franchise owners in meeting their personal goals and providing even better services to their families. Innovation is critical to our success and always top of mind for me.”
For Broc, the success of Kiddie Academy Franchisees is not just a business objective—it’s personal. Over the last 6 years, his primary goal has always been creating meaningful relationships with all the Franchisees he’s worked with.
“One of the very first franchise candidates I worked with now has 6 open Kiddie Academies and 3 in development across 2 states. It’s been an absolute pleasure to watch these people who have truly become friends grow so much professionally and also personally. They had a unique vision and are certainly exceeding their own expectations and timeline. It has been rewarding to be a small part of their growth.”
It’s a theme that isn’t uncommon for Kiddie Academy, with almost 60% of their Franchisees operating more than one Academy.
“I think it’s a testament to not only our smart growth model but also the community we’re building. When I look to expand my team, I look for people with strong integrity and character first, as I believe everything else can be taught. When I look for franchise candidates, I’m looking for truly passionate people. Kiddie Academy started as, and remains to this day, a family-owned company, and those values not only persist, but drive what we do and how we do it. Numbers, awards, growth—all of this means nothing if we aren’t doing it right. I believe we’re changing child care for the better and it’s what I’m most proud of.”
