From Accounting to Child Care: Bringing Professional Expertise to Business Ownership in a New Industry
If you had told Steve Ahrens 20 years ago that his future was in child care, he probably wouldn’t have believed you. After having spent ten years as a CPA, Steve was right in the middle of a successful career as a corporate chief financial officer. But somewhere along the way, something changed; or rather, something clicked. Steve analyzed the opportunities, took a leap into a new industry as a franchise business owner, and never looked back. Hear his story here.
Hear Steve talk about his ah ha! moment.
Steve tells us, “My knowledge in accounting gave me the background I needed to evaluate franchise opportunities from a business model perspective. It also comes in handy for the record-keeping and accounting for the business. In business ownership, professional skills always translate somehow regardless of industry.”
Find out what surprised Steve about owning a child care business.
Steve adds, “Accounting, is traditionally a profession for introverts, because you really don’t talk to people all day long. I was really surprised to see how much I enjoy talking to parents and building relationships as a business owner.”
What would Steve say to potential industry-switchers about the child care industry?
