10 Things To Do With Your Kids This Spring

Things to do in Spring

As April begins, families are ready to welcome longer days of sunshine and warm weather, along with spending more time outside. Many school-age children are also on spring break at the beginning of April and looking to head outdoors during the downtime from school. As temperatures start to rise, families are looking for opportunities to get a jump start on summer fun. Here are seven things you can do with your family.

  1. Have a picnic on the lawn: take your shoes and socks off and get cozy on the lawn with a blanket and some snacks.
  2. Hike a local trail: walking outdoors is scientifically proven to make you feel better and sleep better. It builds leg and core strength and helps kids and families get moving while they’re also having fun.
  3. Visit your local farmer’s market: farmer’s markets are a great place to find locally sourced produce, flowers, goods and even breakfast for the family to eat as you walk around.
  4. Celebrate Earth Day on April 22: teach your children the importance of conservation, sustainability, and recycling on Earth Day.
  5. Get in touch with your inner super hero: National Super Hero Day is April 28 and it’s the perfect opportunity to talk to your kids about what it means to be brave and show courage.
  6. Plant a garden: have fun with your kids finding plant seedlings they’re interested in growing and get to work digging in the dirt to get your garden started. Check out our cheat sheet to gardening with kids!
  7. Go for a bike ride together: ride bikes together as a family or walk alongside your kids as they ride their bikes down the block.
  8. Go to the zoo: April offers ideal weather conditions for a zoo visit and many animal exhibits are open or reopening.
  9. Check out a book at the library: many public libraries offer story times and special events in addition to book browsing. Check out a few books and read them together outside at the park or at home.
  10. Play mini golf: golf is a fun springtime sport enjoyed by young kids and their parents.

Look for other local community events happening in your neighborhood like kite-flying festivals, craft fairs and farm fairs. Look for any opportunity to get outside and spend time together as a family soaking up springtime.
